Local, Seasonal, Sustainable

My crazy talented brother (Dan Mallahan) was in the process of opening a new restaurant in Seattle. He planned to launch a Kickstarter Campaign to offer a way for family, friends, and local food lovers to support the project. Local farms and seasonal ingredients are essential to his process and the principle for his restaurant.

I worked with him to conceptualize a video that highlights his hands-on approach, while illustrating his background and passion for food. He wanted to spotlight some of his favorite farmers and locations, as well as feature some of the fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients he cooks with.

I spent 3 months producing, shooting, and editing a short film to be featured on his website and Kickstarter page. I coordinated production on multiple on-site shooting locations – including Little Big Farm in Olympia, Baywater Shellfish in Port Ludlow, the West Seattle Farmers Market, the restaurant space at Alki Beach and the surrounding area, and in Dan’s own kitchen.

The Kickstarter was successfully backed by 180 backers, and raised over $77,000 dollars.

It was a blast to meet all the passionate people that he works with, see firsthand all the local ingredients he cooks with, and watch his process as he creates something so authentic and unique.
